NADA Miami Beach

In this installation, Bahareh Khoshooee pulls from Iranian/American pop culture and contrasts the humor, liveliness and, at times, malicious quality of them against sober, animated automatons. Visual content from social media (specifically images pulled from Khoshooee’s 'Explore' section on Instagram) have been digitally layered with her own portraiture, animated, and projected upon an otherwise rigid, amorphous structure. Through the accrual and curation of “shared” and “repurposed” imagery, Khoshooee questions the quotidian in relation to self-image, perception of the other, and the automatic activation of stereotypes and threat. #EverChangingFacade is a convoluted and ever-shifting digital skin of algorithmic content projected upon the static and tangible aggregate of familiar yet foreign forms.
